Engine oil and gas (petrol)

Hi friends,

sorry my english is still not that good.

Looking on forums that are mostly US-based, people speak very highly of the Shell rotella T6 engine oil. I have also used this before in another car when I lived in the US, and the results are quite good.

For some reason, this is not available here. So I wanted to ask you all, what oil you put in your engines to try to reduce the ticking as much as possible, and of course to keep the engine running well?

Secondly, when I used to drive my miata in Germany, I would always get the E5 95 gas, but being in the Netherlands, the only options are E10 95 or E5 98 grade. I feel hesitant to put E10 gas in such an old car, but going for 98 every time puts an extra hit on my wallet. What gas do you put in your old miatas?

Happy Miataing!

cheers,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

It might help if you enlighten us with the type and the age of your car. ND's are more modern than e.g. NA's and don't need extra care in terms of different oil or gas.

My apologies for the lack of information.

I drive a NA from 1991. Currently with 174,xxx miles, or 280,xxx km. (In miles because it was an import from the US)

I try to do an oil change every 3,000 miles.

Cheers,
Jeremy

You can find much more (technical) information on the site of the MX5 owners, look for      forum.mx-5owners.nl
Look for yourself, you will be surprised.
You better do not put E95/E10 in your car, you better use E95/E5 (not many gasstations have that fuel) or E98/E5 (you can find that nearly everywhere)

greetings.

I live close to the German border, there’s an Aral gas station nearby. I always fill my 10th AE with Aral Ultimate 102. There is zero ethanol in that fuel. I don’t care if it takes a slight hit on my wallet. This MX-5 is our third car and it’s solely used for fun and a hobby.

Thanks for the insights and sharing the resource of the other forum. So glad to see such a large mx5 community here!
